1. Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI)
This ministry was established in April
1956. The Minister of this ministry is Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed. The aim of
the establishment of this ministry is to plan, legislate and implement
international trade and industrial policies that will ensure Malaysia's rapid
development towards achieving National Economic Policy and Vision 2020. The
functions of this ministry are :
·
To plan, formulate and
implement policies on industrial development, international trade and
investment.
·
To encourage foreign and
domestic investment.
·
To promote Malaysia's exports
of manufacturing products and services by strengthening bilateral, multilateral
and regional trade relations and cooperation.
·
To enhance national
productivity and competitiveness in the manufacturing sector.
·
To plan and promote the
development of Malaysia's export performance in the international market.
·
To plan, coordinate and monitor
the development of small enterprises and medium-sized.
·
To develop and improve
management skills, entrepreneurship and general supervision to the private
sector and especially to the Bumiputera.
2.
Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry (MOA)
YB Dato' Sri Ismail Sabri bin Yaakob is the
Minister of this ministry. The aim of MOA establishment was to lead the
processes of transformation in the agricultural sector in a planned, integrated
and comprehensive mobilization based around the ideas and energy of the
organization towards achieving the objectives of the National Agro-food Policy
2011-2020 (DAN). The functions of this ministry are:

Formulating, planning and
implementing policies, strategies and Agricultural Development Program.
·
Evaluate, coordinate and ensure
the implementation of the project / program Agricultural Development agro-food.
·
Carry out Research and
Development (R&D) and innovation to improve productivity and
competitiveness of the agro-food sector.
·
Encourage domestic and foreign
investment in the agro-food sector.
·
Design and implementation of
agro-food marketing chains are efficient and effective.
3.
Ministry of Science, Technology and Inovation (MOSTI)
Ministry of Science, Technology and
Inovation was established in 1973 as Ministry of Technology, Research and Local
Government. Then, in 1976 the name of this ministry was changed to Ministry of
Science, Technology and Environment (MOSTE) due to consistent with the new
functions and responsibilities related to environmental issues. However, in March
27, 2004, Cabinet have agreed to the restructuring of the MOSTE and the name
changed to the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) to
spearhead the development of national ICT, Multimedia and Innovation. YB Datuk
Dr.Ewon Ebin is the Minister of MOSTI. There are nine strategic thrust of MOSTI,
which is :

Developing human capital in STI
towards creating and enhancing the knowledge-based economy and capital driven
innovation.
·
Benefits and intensify R &
D, technology acquisition and innovation to the market.
·
Mainstreaming STI, nurture and
cultivate creative and innovative thinking.
·
Increase and strengthen
networking and strategic network (collaboration, cooperation and partnership).
·
Strengthen fund research,
development and commercialization.
·
Intensify the commercialization
and intellectual property for wealth creation and social welfare.
·
Empowering communities through
science, technology and innovation for sustainable development.
·
Internationalization.
·
Strengthening the capacity and
support services capacity MOSTI.
4.
Ministry of Tourism and Culture (MOTOUR)
YB Dato' Seri Mohamed Nazri bin Abdul Aziz
is the Minister of Tourism and Culture Malaysia. There are three objectives of
this ministry. The first objective was to boost the contribution of the tourism
sector to the national economy. Second, to empower the rural community through
rural tourism activities, and the last one was to catalyze the development of
1Malaysia through tourism activities. The functions of the MOTOUR are divided
into three, which is :

To formulate a national tourism
policy in order to achieve the vision, mission and objectives of the ministry.
·
To implement policies relating
to the growth and development of the tourism industry.
·
To co-ordinate, monitor and
assess the effectiveness of tourism programmes and projects.
5.
Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperative, and Consumerism (MDTCC)
MDTCC was established in October 27, 1990.
The aim of the MDTCC establishment was to encourage the development of domestic
trade ethically and protect the interests of consumers. YB Dato’ Hasan bin
Malek is the Minister of MDTCC. The general function of MDTCC was to formulate
policies, strategies and examine matters related to the development of domestic
trade and consumerism. The function of MDTCC was divided into three aspects, which
is domestic trade, cooperative, and consumerism.
i. Domestic Trade
·
Determine and monitor the
prices of essential goods.
·
License the sale and
distribution of essential goods.
·
License the sale and
distribution of petroleum products and petrochemicals.
·
Coordinate policies,
regulations and activities related to the safety of the petroleum,
petrochemical and gas.
·
Direct selling business
license.
·
Implement weights and measures
regulations.
·
Coordinate matters concerning
corporations, companies and businesses in related acts.
·
Promote the practice of good
corporate governance.
·
Administer and develop the
system of intellectual property protection.
·
The socio-economic development
of the people through cooperatives.
·
Develop new business
opportunities based franchise concept.
·
Develop hawkers and petty
traders.
ii. Cooperative
·
Formulate policies cooperative
sector.
·
Regulate the cooperative sector
(Act 1993).
·
Implementing development
projects and programs.
·
Implement training cooperative
sector.
iii. Consumerism
·
Implement consumer education
programs.
·
Strengthen consumer awareness
programs and consumer protection.
·
Encourage and assist the
movement of consumerism.
6.
Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities (MPIC)
YB Datuk Amar Doughlas Uggah Embas is the
Minister of MPIC. There are four objectives of the MPIC establishment. The
first objective of MPIC is to maximize the contribution of the commodity-based
industries to national income including GDP and foreign exchange earnings. The
second objective is to make Malaysia a
centre of excellence in R&D, technology and services in commodity-based
industries. Third objective is to increase the efficiency, productivity,
quality and sustainability of primary industries based on K-economy. The last
objective is to enhance marketing capabilities in order to increase market
share particularly in niche markets. The main function of MPIC is divided into
two :

To formulate policies and
strategies for the overall development of the plantation and the commodity
sectors.
·
To supervise departments and
agencies under the Ministry on financial management and implementation of
plantation and commodities development programs.
